Located in uptown Mount Dora, the restaurant is home to the Nell Burger, and is “THE” place to go for breakfast in Lake County.
We feature diner style food at reasonable prices. If you ask the local folks, they will tell you that we serve the best breakfast and lunch in Mount Dora and the surrounding communities. Due to customer demand, we serve breakfast all day.

A Taste of Local History:
The Highland Street Cafe has been under its current name and ownership for over 12 years. What most people don’t know is that it is Mount Dora’s oldest restaurant, heralding back to the 1950’s. It started as a small barbecue place called “Shiver’s”. The restaurant later became “Bud’s Gizmo” serving various American fare such as the “Gizmo”; a triple bun burger with two hamburger patties and their own special sauce. For a short time it was a broasted chicken place and later became “Elsie’s” before becoming known as “The Highland Street Cafe” in 2001.
Recent Addition:
In 2017, the living space above the restaurant was renovated to serve as a short term fully furnished rental unit. We affectionately call the apartment The Loft on Highland.
